- Measurement Package for Regional Happiness
Measuring multiple aspects to capture the state of a community
In this project, we are creating a Measurement Package for measuring multiple aspects of regional happiness.
This Measurement Package places importance on capturing multiple aspects of the conditions of regional communities.
This is not a package that attempts to answer the question "What is the happiest community in Japan?" by producing a happiness level ranking based on the Multidimensionality of only one indicator.
Rather, this is a tool being created with the aim of analyzing various aspects, such as the strengths of one's community,
the important aspects of one's community are and what are worthy goals and things that must be done in the community.
Characteristics
"The Multidimensional Test of Regional Happiness" developed by this project measures multiple elements of regional happiness. For example, it measures one's subjective sense of health and well-being, as well as the social bonds within your region and its openness to outsiders.
The advantages of multidimensional measurements
-
1. It allows us to draw correlations between different elements
Analyze what regional elements can increase one's subjective well-being
-
2. It allows us to capture a wide range of regional characteristics
Verifying the validity
This Measurement Package is a survey questionnaire. It is formatted to be distributed to residents of local communities, and is comprised of simple items such as "How is your current state of health". The items on the survey were created and selected based on the results of scientific research in psychology and are analyzed together with objective data to test their validity. For information regarding the collection of objective data, please see the "Lifestyle Environment Survey" and the "Activity Monitor and Social Network Survey" in the "Surveys and Analysis" section of this site.
Demo VersionMultidimensional Indicators of Regional Happiness
We present a proposal for multidimensional measures of regional happiness.
It uses questions that measure important aspects of regional happiness, such as:
- happiness and a sense of health
- social bonds within the community
- contributions to the community and awareness of supporting others
- regional openness to outsiders
The score for the demo version is presented as an individual score,
but the actual research data is analyzed together with the surveys from the same town (e.g., village, regions)
*The demo version does not contain every item used in the formal test package.
The Measurement Package
For those who are considering using the Measurement Package, please click the "Contact Us" link below. It is said that the way in which one can be "happy" or "wealthy" differs, depending on one’s country and region.
To understand what it means to be "happy" for people in different localities, to think about what "happiness" is for residents, and to consider visions for the community, it is vital to capture and analyze various characteristics of that region.
